PROS AND CONS OF DENTAL ASSISTING

What are the possible pros and cons of dental assisting? There are a few on both sides and we will address them here right now. You should take these points in mind when you're deciding whether or not dental assisting could be right for you. There's a lot you can do but it might not be for you! Pros:

 

  • Good salary - on average a dental assistant makes about $33,000 a year and the top 10 percent makes more than $42,000

  • Dental schools online and training usually takes less than a year!

  • Paid vacation

  • No weekends or nights

  • You are genuinely helping people achieve a brighter smile

  • 401K

  • Exciting and positive work environment

  • Minimal requirements for entry

  • Stable job market for dentists, dental hygienists, and assistants

  • Takes a relatively short time to become one

 

Cons:

 

  • Not much room for advancement besides becoming certified

  • Feeling underappreciated by the other staff

  • Makes less than hygienists and dentists

  • Work around people's mouths a lot, which might not be that appealing

  • Job usually not respected as much as other dental jobs

  • More competition than the other occupations
